NORASEELA Khalid needs to post a season's best at the Malaysian Open this weekend to convince dithering Malaysian Amateur Athletics Union (MAAU) officials that she deserves a place in the Guangzhou Asian Games contingent. While the Olympic Council of Malaysia is happy for Noraseela to travel to Guangzhou under Category B, the final decision rests with MAAU which has delivered an ultimatum to the 400m hurdler to run under 58.2 seconds.
Noraseela, who won bronze at the 2006 Doha Asian Games and silver at the 2005 Asian Championships in Incheon, hopes to put all arguments to rest when she takes to the National Sports Complex track in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.
"I've had one injury after another since the Sea Games (where she won gold) and only returned to competition in August in Europe.
"But you can't expect to run in good competitions in Europe so late into the season.
"And when I returned here, there was nobody to race against.
"But I know that I can run better than 58.2 and I will get it done on Sunday (tomorrow)," said Noraseela, who holds the national record of 56.02s, in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
The two-day meet starts today with several Asian and local athletes using it as a warm-up for Guangzhou and others seeking to qualify at the last minute.
