KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian football squad to the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, earned the full three points in their opening match in Group A by beating Kyrgyzstan 2-1 Monday at the Huadu Stadium.
The Malaysian goals came through Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and S. Chanturu while Kyrgyzstan replied through Sydykov.
Play in the first half was balanced. Norshahrul found space in the 27th minute and scored the first goal.
Kyrgyzstan, having come under pressure, attacked the Malaysian goal repeatedly and found the equaliser in the 37th minute through Sydykov.
After the break, Chanturu found the net in the 60th minute.
Malaysian Chef de Mission Datuk Zolkples Embong expressed satisfaction with the Malaysian victory but advised the squad to remain focused as their next match was against Japan on Wednesday.
The Malaysia-Japan match is scheduled for about 4pm (Malaysian time) at the same venue.
