MAKING a good first impression is a very important part of hosting an event.
And yesterday, Guangzhou certainly passed the test with flying colours.
Just hours after landing here, Malaysia’s chef-de-mission Datuk Zolkples Embong was already praising the 16th Asian Games hosts for going the extra mile to make the event a comfortable and memorable one for all.
“I see a vast difference here – especially after experiencing the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Guangzhou looks very organised and every aspect has been looked into,” said Zolkples.
“There were so many helpful, willing and smiling faces as we walked out of the plane. We could immediately feel the great Games atmosphere.
“As we move out from the airport, we could see the banners, posters and flowers everywhere. Transportation is well arranged. We received an overwhelming welcome and eveything went smoothly. They made it very easy for everyone at the check point and security areas.
“The Games Village is fantastic. It is colourful and so lively.
“It is very comfortable for the athletes.
“It shows the long hours and hard work put in by the hosts. Guangzhou is really prepared to greet the 16th edition of the Games in a fantastic fashion.”
Despite the language barrier, all the volunteers should be commended for taking the initiative to speak in English to make everyone feel at home.
