SEPANG, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- The national billiards and snooker team has set its sights on making it to the quarter finals for both the individual and group categories at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
National coach David Ong said besides China, the Qatar and Hong Kong teams were also potential threats to the Malaysian team in the competition, which begins Friday and ends on Nov 27.
"Although I am only placing hopes for the team to make it to the quarter final, I hope they will surprise us by bringing home medals," he told Bernama when met at the KL International Airport (KLIA) here Thursday.
The billiards and snooker team left KLIA for Guongzhou Thursday morning together with the national chess, bowling, shooting, mens hockey, cricket, and sepak takraw teams.
Moh Keen Hoo, Thor Chuan Leong and Lai Chee Wei will be competing in the snooker event while Ibrahim Amir, Benjamin Lee Poh Soon, Esther Kwan and Suhana Dewi Sabtu will take part in pool.
The national billiards and snooker team won a silver medal in the women's pool team event through Esther Kwan and Suhana Dewi Sabtu at the last Asian Games in Doha in 2006.
