GUANGZHOU, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- National equestrian ace, Quzandria Nur Mahamad Fathil and her brother, Mohd Qabil Ambak clinched a silver and bronze medal in the individual Dressage event of the 16th Asian Games, here Wednesday.
It was the first time Quzandria Nur had managed to outclass her brother in any Dressage competition.
"We always compete against each other in any competition. He is my biggest opponent. I am happy that I won this time. Although I aimed for the gold medal, luck was not my side. The silver medal was also great," she said.
Quzandria Nur, astride 'Handsome' managed to collect 71.558 points while Qabil took the bronze with 71.195 points.
The gold medal was won by South Korea's Hwang Young Shik with 73.134 points with 'Laura'.
"Actually, I was a bit disappointed. I put up a high difficulty performance compared with the gold medallist. The routine was a very difficult movement which others normally don't choose.
"I had to express this feeling because one of the judge was a Korean and the advantage was given to their equine. However, I have to admit that dressage is a subjective sport," said Quzandria.
She was also pleased with the performance or her horse, Handsome, over three days of competition (from the team events on Nov 14).
"My coach helped me a lot at this Asian Games. 'Handsome' was in great form when competing in the individual events that started on Monday and he was awesome today," said Quzandria, who trained in Denmark with Andreas Helgstrand.
Commenting on her sister's achievement, Qabil said he was proud with Quzandria's achievement Wednesday.
"She deserved to win and I must congratulate her for that," said Qabil.
Qabil, making his fourth appearance at the Asia Games, said he only trained with his stallion "Wup" for two months in Holland before the Games.
In the Doha Asian Games in Qatar, four years ago, he also won a bronze medal from the event.
Qabil and Quzandria Nur had also teamed-up with Putri Alia Soraya Ahmad Shuhaimi and Diani Lee Cheng Ni to win a bronze medal in the team Dressage event last Sunday.
