GUANGZHOU, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's women's spikers failed to match the Thais and lost 0-2 in the bronze medal match in the women's beach volleyball event of the 16th Asian Games here Tuesday.
The Malaysian pair, Luk Teck Hua and Beh Shun Thing, who had created history by marching to the first ever semifinals yesterday, were beaten 18-21, 14-21 by Sannok Juranee and Tenpaksee Usa in 39 minutes.
The Thais dominated the match through their sharp service and net play.
Beh said they got a historic breakthrough to the semis for Malaysia.
Four years ago in Doha, Qatar, the Malaysian duo finished in seventh spot.
"No one expected that we could be among the top four. There were so many strong teams such as China, Japan, Thailand and Kazakhstan. We even didn't know whether we could make the semis but we did . But I still feel regret that we didn't get the medal," she told reporters after the match.
In the all Chinese final, Xu Chen/Zhang Xi beat compatriots Huang Ying/Yue Yuen 21-14, 21-13 for the gold.
