Asian Games: Karate Exponents Add A Silver To Medal Tally

From Zulhilmi Supaat GUANGZHOU, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Karate who contributed two gold and a bronze medal Wednesday, added a silver Thursday through Jamalliah Jamaludin from women's Kumite above 68kg at the Guangdong gymnasium here.

Jamalliah, 26, from Perak lost 2-5 to Jordan's Manar Shath in the final while Pauline Pereira from Macau and Tang Lingling from China were awarded bronze medals as losing semifinalists.

Coach P. Arivalagan did remind me to be careful of my opponent's strategy as she would always adopt a defensive approach before launching counter-attacks, she said.

"I moved in aggressively during the bout but she just defended most of the time and seized an opportunity to attack me," she told reporters here after her bout here.

Meanwhile, Lim Yoke Wai who competed in the men's Kumite Under-67kg lost to Japan's Shinji Nagaki in the second round while G. Vathana campaign in the women's Under-55kg ended when she lost to Ma Pabillore of the Philippines in the second round.

Malaysia's two gold medal yesterday came from Ku Jin Keat in the men's Kata and R. Puvaneswaran from the men's Kumite under-55kg.
