ASIAD: Malaysia Lead Asean Countries In Medal Tally

GUANGZHOU, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Three gold medals won thus far has firmly placed Malaysia as the leader among Asean countries when day eight activities ended in the 16th Asian Games.

With another seven days to go or half of the competition left, before the Asiad comes to an end on Nov 27, Malaysia have collected three gold, three silver and four bronze medals to secure 10th spot.

Second in overall medal tally are Indonesia at 12 place, with two gold, four silver and 10 bronze, followed by the Philippines in 14th place (2, 1, 5), Thailand in 15th spot (1, 4, 13), Singapore in 16th (1, 4, 2), Vietnam in 20th spot (0, 11, 11), Myanmar one below (0, 4, 1) and Laos in 26th spot with (0,0,2).

The other two Asean countries, Brunei and Cambodia have yet to win any medal.

As of yesterday, 19 countries collected 239 gold medals from the overall 476 gold medals offered in the Guangzhou edition.

Host, China are still leading the pack with 126 gold medals, followed by South Korea (43) and Japan (25).

Malaysian medallist:

Gold - Chai Foong Ying (wushu), Mohd Azizulhasni Awang (cycling), Alex Liew and Andrian Ang (bowling),

Silver: Ibrahim Amir (billiard sport), Josiah Ang (cycling), Quzandria Nur Mahamd Fathil (equestrian).

Bronze: Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi (shooting), Mohd Qabil Ambak, Quzandria Nur, Putri Alia Soraya Ahmad Shuhaimi, Diani Lee Cheng Ni (equestrian), Tai Cheau Xuen (wushu) and Mohd Qabil Ambak (equestrian).
