KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- National elite bowler Zulmazran Zulkifli who pipped Isaac Russell by a single pin to lift the men's Masters crown in the National Championships yesterday wants to focus on earning a slot for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
Though Zulmazran is the top bowler in the country, he feels the competition for places in the squad for the Asian Games would be stiff since a number of back up squad players have been absorbed into the elite squad.
"This year the competition is going to be more challenging, especially with the presence of players like Timmy (Tan) and Isaac (Russell Paul) although winning the title yesterday has given me a better chance.
"However, I am prepared to face the stiff competition to ensure a place in the squad," he told Bernama, today.
Zulmazran, 31, said the National squad has been scheduled to play in a number of tournament before the Asian Games in September, including the Malaysian Open to be held from May 2-10.
"Coach Holloway Cheah will not hesitate to sideline anyone who fails to perform well," said Zulmazran who hopes to perform better than the bronze medal feat at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
Zulmazran, a seasoned campaigner who has represented the country in three previous Asian Games - Busan, South Korea (2002); Doha, Qatar (2006) and Guangzhou, China (2010), is eyeing a fourth consecutive appearance in the Asian Games.
Zulmazran, who has been with the national team since 2000.
