THE injury-ravaged Asian Games football team suffered a fresh blow when defender Nasriq Baharom picked up an injury in yesterday’s 4-0 friendly win over the Maldives at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.
Nasriq appeared to have rolled his ankle with five minutes remaining, giving coach K. Rajagobal another problem. First-choice defenders Aidil Zafuan Radzak, Azmi Muslim and Sabre Mat Abu, winger Baddrol Bakhtiar and striker Zaquan Adha Radzak have already been sidelined.
“Before this, my main concern was looking for a replacement for Zaquan. Who would have thought these injuries to my defenders would happen all at once. I can only choose players from a list of 30, so I’ll have to think this over and only name the squad tomorrow (today),” said Rajagobal.
Despite the latest blow, the national Under-23 team had a good outing against their Maldives counterparts with Safee Sali (10th), S. Chanturu (35th), Ahmad Fakri Saarani (79th) and Amirulhadi Zainal (81st) getting the goals. — DEVINDER SINGH
