KUALA LUMPUR: The back-up squad men’s pair of Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong will be face the biggest test in their badminton careers at the Guangzhou Asian Games.
And one person is quietly confident that the youngsters will come out of the whole experience with flying colours.
Their coach, Tan Kim Her, is looking at Hee Chun-Wee Kiong to believe in themselves and to avoid making careless mistakes.
“I trust and have confidence in them. They can make it difficult for others if they can hold their game,” said Kim Her.
In the Denmark Open in Odense last week, the duo upset seventh seeded Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama-Wong Wai Hong of Hong Kong before losing in the quarter-finals to eventual champions Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark.

The duo are the second ranked pair in the Asiad team behind their senior team-mates, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong. They will also feature in the individual competition.

“They have been shaping up well and are more consistent. They are talented but they need to be braver in making a statement on the world stage. The Asian Games will be a perfect platform for them to make a difference,” he said.
